Let’s Take a Minute to Talk About the New Gucci Campaign

Can we all just take a moment to talk about the new ‘Gucci and Beyond’ campaign please? Released today, the Gucci FW17 campaign brings together an odd combination of geek culture and high fashion. Could this be the start of an all-new sci-fi trend?

Let’s face it, summer is starting to draw to a close and as depressing as that may be, Gucci have made it that little bit more exciting. Teaming up with photographer Glen Luchford, their Star Trek-inspired collection has caused some serious hype online.  The brand has said “Motifs from sci-fi of the 50s and 60s appear in the video alongside a Star Trek inspiration and the men’s and women’s collections designed by Alessandro Michele.” and looks to be a promising collection.

The reception online has been varied, the majority of trend-followers rejoicing in its originality and nostalgic reminder of 70s sci-fi. However, it was only a matter of time before its outlandish, eccentric scenes featuring everything from cows to aliens – and, of course, teleportation – became somewhat of a meme.

What are your thoughts on the new collection? And most importantly, what do you think about the campaign to present it?
