Victoria’s Secret Lingerie Show 2014

Since 1995 The Victoria’s Secret annual showcase has caused hysteria in the fashion world, and none more so than this year, when the troupe of Victoria’s Secret Angels arrived in London at the weekend for Tuesday’s 20th anniversary show.

Whether you love it for the incredible spectacle or hate it for the body-image message it sends, the Victoria’s Secret show is an annual highlight on the fashion calendar.

Two years on from the Olympic Games, the enviably toned and sculpted physiques of some of the world’s top models touched down in the capital. After creating pandemonium on Monday in Central London at the lingerie giant’s flagship store, the who’s who of the modelling world stormed the catwalk at Earl’s Court, a rare breakaway from the usual US-based shows.

The annual showcase has become renowned for its sexiness, its glamour, its array of impossibly beautiful models, the huge celebrity turnout and the inclusion of some of the world’s biggest musical stars who take to the stage to perform alongside the Angels. This is certainly one extravaganza with no expense spared by the $4 billion company.

Furthermore, this year’s change in location was not a signifier of a forthcoming prim and proper affair; in fact the show featured more outfits than ever before.

The themes this year were as varied and diverse as usual with the display boasting six categories: Gilded Angels, Exotic Traveller, Dream Girl, Fairy Tale, University of Pink and Angel Ball which unveiled a total of 79 looks to the suited and booted audience. (All guests were required to dress in their smartest Sunday best, in keeping with the show’s theme based on Truman Capote’s famous Black and White Masquerade Ball in Manhattan in 1966.)

Strutting their stuff down the 100ft glitter-strewn runway included British models Jourdan Dunn and Lily Donaldson alongside Karlie Kloss, Joan Smalls, Candice Swanepoel, Doutzen Kroes, Izabel Goulart, Ming Xi and Angel veterans Adriana Lima and Alessandra Ambrosio.

Hotly anticipated to be taking part in last night’s show were Kendall Jenner and Cara Delevingne. However the two models had bagged themselves a gig in Austria with Chanel on the same evening.

Opening the show with the Gilded Angel’s segment, was American model Karlie Kloss while prominent British model, Jourdan Dunn, looked ethereal in her home city styled as a fairy angel in pale pink and ice blue. Later on, Izabel Goulart blew kisses to the crowd, sporting knee high butterfly lace-up boots and possibly the largest wings of the night.

Brazil’s Adriana Lima and Alessandro Ambrosio were the highlight of the evening sashaying down the catwalk together in the Exotic Traveller display to unveil the Fantasy Bra.

The most anticipated part of every Victoria’s Secret show is the reveal of the Fantasy Bra. To be chosen to wear it is an honour bestowed upon an Angel each year, but this was the first time there were two on display.
